Mission and Impact
Street-Level Youth Media educates Chicago's urban youth in media arts and emerging technologies for use in self-expression, communication, and social change.
Street-Level’s programs build critical thinking skills in youth who have been historically neglected by policy-makers and mass media. Using video and audio production, digital arts, and the Internet, Street-Level’s young people address community issues, access advanced communication technology, and gain inclusion in our information-based society.
Street-Level’s facility and free media arts education programs provide Chicago’s under-resourced youth with a much needed outlet for positive self-expression and cultural production. Our programs serve over 800 young people through community and school- based programs.
We offer under-served youth a pathway to gain
- 21st century digital and critical thinking skills,
- Support for their artistic development,
- An opportunity to cultivate lifelong learning habits,
- And a channel for engagement as active participants in their communities.
Support Street-Level Youth Media and help Chicago youth build a more productive and socially engaged Chicago community.
